FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What if the sound of the button is not loud enough (or too loud)?

A: As there is no volume control on your button, the volume depends upon how loud the sound clip actually is. You can raise or lower the volume of your MP3 sound clips by using this online tool. We also recommend downloading a program called Audacity, a free sound editor program that can be used to optimize the volume of both MP3 and WAV sound clips. Go here for a guide on how to use Audacity to make your sound clips louder or quieter. You can also use Audacity to cut your sound clips to the exact length you want.

Q: Where do the sounds in your library come from?
A: Some of them we have recorded ourselves, but most come from the following places:
-
MyInstants.com: hands down the best place to get short, funny sound clips for your button. Very simple and easy to use
-
Freesound.org: a great archive of free sound effects that have been recorded and uploaded by users. All free to download once you sign up, also for free.
-
Peal.io: Great alternative to check if you can't find the sound you want on MyInstants. Plenty of fantastic sounds, all FREE!!!

Q: What if I can't find the sound I'm looking for in the library?

A: If you can't find what you want in our Sound Library then we suggest you get 4K Video Downloader, a free program that extracts the audio tracks from YouTube videos. Then use Audacity, a free sound editing program, to edit the clip down to the exact sound you want. You can also use Audacity to make the sound clips louder or quieter by using the amplify feature.
Alternatively, you can download Chrome Audio Capture, a simple to use program that records whatever sound is coming from your speakers direct so there is no loss of quality. You hit record on the program, play the sound you want on YouTube, then hit "save capture" and whatever sound played through your speakers is now saved as an MP3 file. See detailed instructions below.
After you record it you may want to trim the sound clip down to cut out those awkward silences at the start and end of the clips you record. Use this online tool to trim them to exactly what you want.

Q: My button only makes a sound every second or third time I press it?

A: Let us guess, you uploaded your sound files from a computer operating Mac OSX. Or the person who used it before you did. There are hidden metadata files on your device that the button is trying to play. Don't worry, it is a easy fix. Head over to our instructions page for the simple solution.

Q: What order do the sounds play in?

A: On both Mac OSX and Windows computers, the sound files will play in the order you upload them.
So if you want them to play the sounds in a specific order, select, drag and drop the sounds one by one and they will play in that order. If you want to randomize the order they play in, then select all the files and drag and drop them all at the same time.

Q: How do I record my own sound and upload it?

Q: I have inserted new batteries and my button is not working anymore?

Some AAA batteries from the USA have shorter metal tips and will not make contact with the metal pad on the button and therefore will not power it. Please try a different brand of AAA battery that has a longer tip and it will work. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
